The acting troupe Riverside Shakespeare will be holding auditions for Romeo and Juliet next month at the Old Town Playhouse.
Actors should have a short Shakespeare monologue ready, and be prepared to read from the script itself. Those seeking a specific role (Juliet, Romeo, Mercutio etc.) should prepare a short speech.
“Gallop apace” or “Shall I speak ill of him that is my husband?” are suggested for Juliet. Romeo could do “But soft” or something similar.
Director Guy Molnar will consider females for the role of Mercutio, and perhaps for other traditional male roles.
Auditions will be Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19, from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Rehearsals will begin immediately on Monday, May 20. Rehearsals will generally run Monday through Thursday evenings with some Sunday rehearsals as the performance draws near.
Performances are scheduled for July 19, 20, 26 and 27 at Hannah Park, Sixth and Union Streets in Traverse City.
Further information is available by calling 941-4953.
