The Suttons Bay Jazz Band, with Anne Morey directing, will be one of three high school jazz bands participating in the second annual Battle of the Bands Sunday at the Northport Community Arts Center. The music is set to begin at 8 p.m.
In addition to the show, the musicians will have the opportunity to learn from a jazz master, Bill Sears, who is the director of jazz studies at Interlochen Arts Academy. Sears, who also teaches saxophone, will spend the day prior to the band performance teaching rehearsals with each jazz band.
The Elk Rapids Jazz Band, under the direction of David McKeon, and Kingsley Jazz Band, with Thomas Clair directing, will also be appearing at the Battle of the Bands, which is not a competition. Sears will perform as a feature saxophonist with each band as well during the evening.
Tickets for the event may be purchased online at www.northportpac.org or by calling (231) 386-5001.
