Bob Purvis of Suttons Bay Township will be the third speaker in the Talk About Art series being sponsored by the Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA).

Purvis, a metal sculpture artist, will talk about his art and how he creates it Thursday, March 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Glen Arbor.
“My work is about forms in space,” said Purvis. “I believe that steel can be manipulated to evoke emotion and that is what I strive to do.”
A native of Traverse City, Purvis graduated from Northwestern Michigan College and went to work in his family’s steel fabrication business. When the business was sold in 1976 he struck out on his own. After a few years of repair work, he was asked to be more creative at the behest of clients interested in unconventional work. From that experience to the present, Purvis said he’s tried to use his creativity to the fullest extent. His career has evolved to include architectural ironwork, furniture design and sculpture. It has also included interaction with public school art departments and students throughout the Grand Traverse region.
His current sculpture work can be seen at the entrance to the CenterPoint building in Greilickville, and the wall sconces inside the State Theater in Traverse City.
The GAAA is offering the series to help the audience gain an appreciation and better understanding of art, and how it is created, and is open to the public at no charge.
The GAAA is located across from Cherry Republic behind Lake Street Studios in Glen Arbor.
