Large turbines in Solon Twp. leaves one speechless

To the Editor:

Three-hundred and sixty-foot commercial wind turbines in Leelanau County? Really?

This thought renders me speechless. We have something very special in Leelanau County, something that must be preserved for future generations!

I never would have thought lifelong residents of this incredibly beautiful place would even consider approving such an ordinance. Unfortunately, 360-foot large scale wind turbines on 10 acre agriculturally zoned parcels are exactly what the Solon Township Planning Commission members have approved!

The bias toward a single land-owner and developer is opening the door for a massive industry to walk into Leelanau County. The Commission’s actions completely disregard Leelanau County residents who have not only invested in a beautiful place to live, but also enjoy a unique quality of life.

This ordinance is now in the hands of the Solon Township Board for final approval. Since the Planning Commission failed to consider our interests, we now have an obligation to voice our opposition.

Please attend the next Solon Township Board meeting tonight, Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Cedar Fire Station.
