Allen F. Compton 1938-2012

An informal gathering is set for Aug. 4 for friends and family of Allen F. Compton of Cedar who died June 30 at his home.

He was 73.

Allen was born Sept. 3, 1938 in Traverse City, the son of Forrest A. and Violet E. (Clark) Compton. On April 2, 1960 he married Gloria A. (Synder) Compton.

He worked for Cox Distributing for nine years making deliveries to local stores and long distance transfers to Cincinnati. Allen also worked for Boughey Bottling company in Traverse City, C & S Hogerheide Trucking in South Boardman hauling frat tanks. He was also a co-owner in an excavating company and drove septic pumping trucks.

Allen was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a 40-year member of the Traverse City Eagles #383 where he volunteered at various dinners.

He also liked visiting the Bendon Eagles #3503 and fishing, hunting, camping and playing cards, especially euchre.

Allen is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gloria and children: Mick (Barb) Merriner of Phoenix, Rodney Compton of Texas, Tina Kina and Scott (Patti) Compton of Traverse City; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Faye (Jerry) Secor of Traverse City and his mother, Violet Compton.

He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Jack Compton.

Cremation has taken place. Friends and family will meet Saturday, Aug. 4 at the Eagles Club on 14th Street in Traverse City from noon to 2 p.m.

The family chose Life Story Funeral Home in Traverse City to serve them.
