Jeannette A. Hunt 1917-2012
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Northport for Jeannette A. Hunt who died June 30 at Tendercare Health Center in Suttons Bay.
She was 95.
Jeannette was born Feb. 2, 1917 to Robert and Martha (VanOrden) Loree in Lansing, Mich.
She enrolled in Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse with an interest in pediatric nursing. Jeannette immediately served her country as a nurse with the United States Army during WWII in the South Pacific campaign. After the war, she furthered her education at Michigan State University and eventually taught pediatric nursing at the University of Michigan. She then moved to Midland, Mich. and continued her nursing service for Dr. Donald Pike (an ear, nose and throat specialist) until her retirement in 1981.
Jeannette married Robert A. Hunt on Aug. 27, 1952 in Midland. They spent several summers in Northport and then moved there permanently in 1981. Jeannette became a member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal church and was a member of the Leelanau Memorial Health Care Auxiliary.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Jeannette was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert; one brother, Robert Loree, and one sister Emily Lyon.
Today’s service will be at St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church where St. Christopher holds services and worships.
Graveside services will be at the Leelanau Township Cemetery in Northport. Immediately following the service, friends and family are invited to return to the church for a light luncheon.
