Manning, Orban help Grand Rapids CC reach Series
Two former Suttons Bay baseball players were on the successful Grand Rapids Community College Raiders, which reached the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series in Enid, Okla.
Ryan Manning (2010), the son of Gary Manning of Suttons Bay and Allison Manning of Traverse City, hit .354 for the Raiders. The right fielder started 28 games, had 29 hits, a homer and 14 RBIs.
Manning recently signed with Davenport University in Grand Rapids to play next season.
Orban (2011), the son of Terri and Jim Orban of Suttons Bay, played first and third and was the bullpen catcher. He started five games, batted .238. He had five hits and 6 RBI.
The Raiders, who beat Macomb CC twice to win the regional, finished at 39-24 after bowing to defending champ Western Oklahoma State Colelge, 9-1, and Lackawanna College, La., 8-3.
