Rowers earn three medals in Ann Arbor

The Lake Leelanau Rowing Club took home three medals at the Michigan Club Invitational Regatta in Ann Arbor this past weekend. The club celebrated a first, second, and third place win after racing against 26 other teams.

The women’s Novice team, Katie Long, Margie Webb, Allison Taphouse, Betsy Borre, and coxswain Allie Plaut swept their event, finishing first with a time of 4:19.49.

In the Novice/Rec 8+ event, Plaut, Long, Michael Long, Erik Zehender, Webb, Taphouse, Mary Hartman, Borre and coxswain Ryan Kasley took second place with a time of 3:55.90.

Erik Zehender also took third in the men’s Masters 1x with a time of 3:59.84.

Lil’ Boom took first place in Fleet A during the annual Pirates Race at the Northport Bay Yacht Club on Saturday.

The event drew 11 boats, with all racers decked out in tradition Pirate gear.

Kristin B took in second place in Fleet A, followed by Tateki.

Grin won Fleet B, followed by Puff and Dauntless.

The official NBYC race season is off until Aug. 18th with a new race entitled the Power Sail race. The race theme encourages sailors to find power boaters to crew with them.

The club is hosting a “Show Up If You Like” race on Saturday, Aug. 4 with all boats starting at 1 p.m. and keeping track of their own finish times.
