Artist Hawley back in Glen Arbor
THE BURFIEND farm in the Port Oneida Historical District serves as inspiration in this oil painting by Peggy Hawley. Frankfort artist Peggy Hawley returns to Center Gallery at Lake Street Studios in Glen Arbor with oil paintings of northern Michigan’s water and land.
The exhibition opens Friday at 6 p.m. with a public reception at the gallery, 6023 S. Lake St.
Hawley’s 2012 oil paintings focus on vignettes “Along the Manitou Passage.” She depicts boats at dock, farmscapes, tables ready for alfresco parties and other quiet moments.
Hawley is interested in the technical challenges of showing the way light affects her subjects and in creating work that encourages the viewer to look more closely at the local surroundings.
This is her 10th solo exhibition at Center Gallery since 1993.
The exhibition continues through Aug. 9.
