The Northport Salmon Slam will be held Saturday, Aug. 11.

The annual fishing tournament will be launched out of Northport and Leland.

Entry fee is $175 per team.

“It sounds like there’s a lot of fish out there,” said Al Flees, co-tournament director.

Flees wasn’t sure how many entries there are.

“They always wait until the last minute, mostly because of the weather,” Flees said. “But it’s usually the same guys that compete each year.”

Flees said there will be a captain’s meeting Friday, Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Garage Bar in Northport.

“We’ve hoping for good weather and lots of boats,” Flees said.

The event pays out 80 percent of the entry fee to the biggest basket of three salmon. There’s also a 20 percent payout to the non-biggest salmon.

The fishing begins at 7 a.m. and concludes at 4:30 p.m. A weigh-in will be held in Northport at 6 p.m.
