Patricia Rose Schopieray 1927-2012

Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church for Patricia Rose Schopieray of Traverse City who died Friday, July 27 in Traverse City.

She was 85.

Pat was born April 12, 1927 in Cedar to Robert and Anastasia Wozniak. She was an only child though she never lacked for company as her aunts, uncles and cousins provided her with constant friends and companions.

Pat spent her childhood in Cedar and on North Manitou island. She attended Holy Rosary in Isadore before graduating from Traverse City St. Francis.

After graduation, Pat worked as a telephone operator for Michigan Bell. She married Joseph “Paul” Schopieray May 28, 1955. After their children were in school, Pat worked at Michigan Mutual Insurance. They built their home in Greilickville and lived there for 57 years.

After Paul’s death in 2001, Pat continued to volunteer as a lector at church and as chaplain for the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She further blossomed with her time spent with the guys and gals of the “Bingo Crew” of VFW Post 2780. Together than ran the Ladies Auxiliary Bingo every Wednesday for more than 30 years.

Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, son Paul Joseph and daughter-in-law Thaddea Schopieray.

She is survived by her son, Michael (Pam Leonard), daughter Christine (Bob Kelley) and Kim Schopieray, family member Roger Mervau and two grandchildren.

Visitation is tonight from 4 to 8 p.m. in centennial hall at Immaculate Conception church. A rosary is set for 7:30 p.m.

A one-hour visitation will be held prior to the service Friday; interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to The American Cancer Society, VFW Post 2780 Ladies Auxiliary or Immaculate Conception Church.

Arrangements were with Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
