A celebration of life will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. for Reinhold (Reni) Sigfried Dengel of Cedar who died Sunday, July 29 at Munson Medical Center.

He was 60.

Reni was born in Detroit, attended Wayne State University for his bachelor’s degree in special education and earned a master’s degree in early childhood education from Michigan State University.

He worked for 30 years from the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District at Cherry Knoll and Traverse Heights Elementary. Reni also worked in 2010-2011 at Suttons Bay Montessori as a special educator and gym teacher. He was a thoughtful and energetic educator, always on his feet, finding the best in every child with whom he worked.

Reni is survived by his wife Mary Eschbach of Cedar, son Reni (Liz) Dengel of Los Angeles; brothers Ernst (Donna) Dengel, Johannes Peter (Sue) Dengel, and Paul Dengel; sisters Hertha (Kent) McKeley. Christina (Frank) Hayden and Rosita (Frank) Moran.

The memorial service will be held at 1445 E. Maplewing, Cedar.
