Martin, DeBoer marry in Empire Town Hall
DR. GEORGE DEBOER and Jill Wheaton Martin of Washington, D.C. were married last month at the Empire Town Hall. Dr. George DeBoer and Jill Wheaton Martin of Washington, D.C. were married July 14 by the groom’s brother-inlaw Rev. Kenneth D. Schmitt at the Empire Town Hall.
The bride is the daughter of Paul and JoAnne Wheaton and the sister of Polly Jo and Jamie Kemler, all longtime residents of the Empire and Glen Arbor area.
There were no bridesmaids or groomsmen, however, standing in were the groom’s daughter, Margo Chisholm DeBoer, her husband Kirk Chisholm, and their two sons, Graham and Oliver Chisholm, all from Boston, and the bride’s sons, Nicholas Martin from Washington, D.C. and Christopher Martin, currently living in Inuyama, Japan.
The bride owns Gallery St. Elmo, an upscale furniture and home furnishings consignment store in Bethesda, Md. She also designs and sells beaded jewelry, and weaves throws and scarves in her spare time. She is a graduate of Wellesley College and the Cranbrook Kingswood School in Bloomfield Hills.
The groom is a professor Emeritus at Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y. and currently serves as Deputy Director of Project 2061, a national effort of the American Association for the Advancement of Science to improve science teaching in the U.S. He holds degrees from Hope College in Holland, Mich., and University of Iowa and Northwestern University.
The couple is planning a honeymoon to Belgium and the Netherlands next spring.
