Sailors celebrate fur trade at Greilickville
Artisans, re-enactors, sailors and marksmen invade Greilickville on Saturday in an event celebrating maritime history and the fur trade of the Upper Great Lakes.
The Maritime Heritage Alliance of Traverse City and the Armed Sloop Welcome are sponsoring the event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Re-enactors and historians will offer demonstrations in crafts, food, weapons, clothing and transportation from a special time in our history.
The Armed Sloop Welcome recently completed her tour of the Upper Great Lakes, traveling to St. Joseph’s Island in Ontario Canada for the commemoration of the start of the War of 1812.
Festivities will be located at the Traverse City Light and Power former coal dock near the Greilickville Harbor Park and across the road from the Discovery Center Campus and Great Lakes Children’s Museum. Activities and tours are free of charge.
