Gill’s Pier turns hay field into corn maze
A hay field has been converted to a corn maze which will open Saturday, Sept. 1 at Gill’s Pier Vineyard.
The maze and vineyard are the creations of Ryan and Kris Sterkenburg. The couple was looking to make use of additional land they had acquired recently and felt that acorn maze would be a great addition to their winery.
“A corn maze is a family- friendly destination. You can spend as much time as you like at the facility, go at your own pace, and enjoy the weather,” Ryan Sterkenburg said.
The maze has two miles of paths and 10 checkpoints. In October, there are plans for a flashlight night maze and a haunted maze on Halloween weekend.
To kick off the season, the Corn Maze & Gill’s Pier Winery will be throwing a fall fun party and community ribbon cutting Sept. 1. There will be a picnic featuring barbecued ribs from Apache Trout Grill, live music, a ribbon cutting with the Leelanau Chamber of Commerce at 11 a.m. and of course, an opportunity to explore the new maze.
Tickets are $10 per person and include lunch and admission to the maze.
