Holland, Mich. artist Susan Keen looks to the landscape then translates it into an abstraction of brilliant color and shape.

An exhibition of her acrylic paintings opens at Center Gallery Friday witha6p.m.reception.

Keen paints from her imagination.

“This allows me to experiment with color and views, and gives my paintings a fresh, vivid, impressionist feel,” she said.

Keen works quickly and in a style that allows for a broad interpretation of landscape painting. The artist focuses on texture, shape and color rather than strict representation of the scene before her.

The exhibition runs through next Thursday, Aug. 23.
