Permits for a commercial wind turbine and two sizeable single-family housing starts stand out among the dozen permits issued by the county Construction Code Authority in the past two weeks.

The new permits bring the number issued this year to date (YTD) to 183. That’s nine fewer than this time in 2010; six fewer than 2009 and 16 fewer than this time in 2008.

The commercial electric-generating turbine for which a permit has been issued is being placed on Northport Village property by Leelanau Community Energy LLC. The remainder of the projects are all residential.

Total estimated value of the new permits is $1,008,790 which brings the YTD total to $16,321,121 That’s the highest tally at this point of the year since 2008, which would suggest a rebound in the construction industry locally. By this time last year, permits had been approved for projects with an estimated value of $12,141,270. The five-year YTD low of $11,278,9791 was recorded in 2010.

Following are projects for which permits have been issued, listed by the community in which the work is being done:

VILLAGE OF NORTHPORT — Commercial Vesta wind turbine on 170-foot tower at 302 S. West St. (Village of Northport) ($100,000); Philip and Malvina Mikesell (Mark Kenneth Kellogg) residential enclosed porch over existing deck at 107 E. Fifth St. ($10,200).

BINGHAM — Andrew and Melissa Schaub, SFR with unfinished basement at 5445 S. Center Hwy. ($269,200.)

CENTERVILLE — Ben and Kelsey LaCross, final inspection with new owners at 4566 S. Ski View Circle ($500); Douglas A Priest Jr., addition to single-family residence at 4671 S. Sharnowski Rd., ($71,040).

CLEVELAND — Dale and Lois Shalda (Thomas Paul Dunkin) residential wood frame decks at 2914 W. School Lake Rd. ($4,400).

ELMWOOD — Mary Ann Dunbar (Moquin Construction) alteration to existing garage at 9889 E. Cherry Bend Rd. ($25,450.)

KASSON — Matthew and Angela Kincaitis (Lanham Construction Inc.) alteration to existing single-family residence at 994 W. Burdickville Rd. ($25,320); Robert and Deena Hamilton, (Pine Grove Homes) single-family residence on unfinished basement at 10495 S. Newman Rd. ($166,740).
