11 file for 6 openings in Suttons Bay, Empire

There will be six seats filled from 11 candidates seeking election to the Suttons Bay and Empire village councils.

Five candidates submitted nominating petitions for three seats on the governing board for the Village of suttons Bay.

Incumbents John Bumgardner and Robert Johnson filed nominating petitions for seats on the Village Council. Longtime council trustee Donna Herman did not seek re-election.

Also declaring candidacy for the non-partisan portion of the November General Election ballot were four relative newcomers to local elections. They are Colleen Christensen, Rose Hollander, Phyllis Wanroy and Robert Tiderington.

Village President Larry Mawby will also be on the ballot seeking re-election. He is being challenged by Harry Brandt.

In the Village of Empire there are five candidates seeking three, four-year terms on the Village Council.

Incumbents Lanny Sterling and Sam Barr are seeking re-election. The third position, occupied now by Linda Payment, is also up for grabs.

Filing for the non-partisan seats are Barbara Aylsworth-Foged and Eric Foged, husband and wife, and Gerry Shiffman.

Village President Sue Carpenter is running unopposed for re-election.
