Fiber line cut; so was phone use

Century Telephone customers in Leelanau County had limited service Monday afternoon and into Tuesday morning.

A fiber line was cut Monday near Cedar complicating communications for residents in the 228, 334, 326 and 271 exchanges. The exchanges roughly cover Maple City, Cedar, Glen Arbor, Empire and Suttons Bay.

Customers were unable to place or receive calls outside of their prefixes.

Cellular phones were not effected allowing residents needing assistance to call 911 directly. Those without full phone service were encouraged to call their local fire station directly for assistance.

By Tuesday morning the cut had been repaired and all systems were up an running, according to Tom Skowronski, county director of emergency management.
