Crocker will discuss ballot issues at League of Women meeting
Michelle Crocker, Leelanau County Clerk, will be the featured speaker at the hall meeting of the Leelanau Unit of the League of Women Voters next Wednesday, Sept. 5 at the government center in Suttons Bay.
The title of Crocker’s talk is “What’s on the November Ballot?” The clerk will explain how candidates and issues get on the ballot, the different timetables for the various candidates and proposals, and the new procedures and requirements for voting in Michigan. After the presentation, League members will discuss the pros and cons of some of the ballot initiatives and proposed constitutional amendments.
The Leelanau Unit of the League of Women Voters meets at noon in the community room of the Leelanau County Government Center off M-204. Many people bring a sack lunch. At the business meeting, after the speaker, members will vote on an official name for the group when it becomes an independent League in the spring of 2013.
League members will also talk about the candidate forums it is sponsoring in October. Representatives Ray Franz and Allen O’Shea have been invited to a forum on either Oct. 8 or Oct. 9 at the government center. On Oct. 15, the contested commission candidates will take part in a forum, again at the government center. On Oct. 17, candidates for the Leelanau Township Supervisors and Trustees will meet at the Leelanau Township Fire Hall in Northport.
Other township forums are being considered.
