Quilt artist teaching fabric art workshop sponsored by GAAA

Quilt artist Desiree Vaughn is teaching a fabric art workshop Saturday, Sept. 8 and Sunday, Sept. 9 in Glen Arbor.

The Glen Arbor Art Association is sponsoring the two-day event entitled, “The Quilt as Art: Introduction to Non-Traditional, Contemporary Quilt Making.”

Participants will learn simple techniques to assemble art quilts. They will explore surface design, such as mark marking and embellishment ideas by using found objects, beads and even Tyvek. A discussion about good design principles and the elements of design will give students confidence as they work on a small quilt.

Vaughn is an award-winning artist with a love for surface design. She has been teaching for the past six years in her studio and for various art organizations throughout Michigan, including the Crooked Tree Art Center and the Dennos Museum.

The class is open to anyone interested in exploring the quilt as art. Sewing machines are optional.

Registration is required and may be completed by calling 334-6112.
