Suttons Bay Band Camp a week of drills, music and bonding
BAND CAMP at Suttons Bay ended Friday with a performance. Front row, from left, are Lucy Queen (clarinet), Chris Ursu (quads), Eli Kramer (snare). In back row playing bass drums are Amelia Hall and Garrett Keith. The Suttons Bay Marching Band completed a week-long camp on Friday in preparation for the home football games.
The camp drew 29 students, including two from St. Mary.
“The objective of camp is getting our halftime show on the field, but I think the most important aspect of camp is getting together and bonding,” said Emily Morgan, Suttons Bay’s band director. “The students worked extremely hard to learn their music and drills, but we also had a lot of fun.”
The camp ran from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, except Friday’s finale that included a musical performance and ended shortly after noon.
The camp included a bonfire one night, a picnic on another and a lock-in Thursday night.
THE BAND marches from Suttons Bay High School toward the football field to perform Friday at the conclussion of the weeklong band camp. The volunteer band, for grades 7-12, has six more members than a year ago.
