Talk of the County
ANGEL ANCE-BERRY, of Bingham Township, is a 24-year-old student studying social work. She is also a cashier at Hansen Foods in Suttons Bay. Town or township of residence: Bingham Township.
Resident of county since: My whole life.
Age and place of birth: 24-yearsold. I was born at the Osteopathic Hospital in Traverse City before it was torn down.
Occupation: I’m a student at Northwestern Michigan College studying social work and a cashier at Hansen Foods in Suttons Bay.
Marital Status: Single.
You live in Leelanau County because: The first reason is because I was born here, but I really do love it. The people are friendly, everyone knows each other and to me it’s just home.
Last good movie you saw: The Help a 2011 drama staring Emma Stone. It’s an adaptation of a novel by the same name. I liked how the characters eventually stood up for each other and were able to bring social change.
Last good book you read: Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. It was very surprising throughout. I didn’t know what to expect and it gave me an inside look at what working in the circus was like during the time period.
If you could trade places with one person for a day, who would that be: I would trade places with a high-ranking government official so I could find out everything that’s going on in the country and maybe discover a few well-kept secrets. Then I’d try to use that knowledge to make positive changes.
Things important to you that you have accomplished so far: Making the dean’s list at NMC during the spring semester, not being so hard on myself when I don’t accomplish something I wanted to and learning to go with the flow.
What you hope to be doing in 10 years: I hope to be a social worker in my community, maybe have a family and continue being happy.
Things you lose sleep over: Sometimes I lose sleep over tests if they’re really big, but most often it’s because I can’t get my mind to stop wandering. I’m always thinking.
If you could change one thing in Leelanau County, it would be: More job opportunities in the area, especially during the winter.
Favorite dessert: Oatmeal cookies — without raisins. I like cinnamon and coconut in them though.
Are you a coffee drinker: I only drink it when I absolutely need it. I take mine with lots of cream and lots of sugar.
Favorite place in Leelanau County: I’d say either the marina in Suttons Bay, Waterwheel Park or my back yard.
If you have more time, you would: I’d like to do some more volunteering and I’d also like some more down time to go to the beach or hang out with family and friends.
The words that best describe you are: Dependable, loyal and hardworking.
