NATHALIE K. ENSRUD
Died August 24, 2012 GLEN ARBOR – Nathalie Kay Ensrud, 84, of Champaign, IL, and Glen Arbor, MI, passed away on Friday, Aug. 24, 2012 at Munson Medical Center.
Nathalie was born on Oct. 30, 1927 in Suttons Bay to Paulus and Lucille (Conklin) Peterson. In 1949 she graduated from St. Olaf College, Northfi eld, MN. It was at St. Olaf College that she met Richard Ensrud. They were married June 10, 1951 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay.
She served a dietetic internship at the University of Michigan Hospital and from 1950 to 1953 she was a diabetic dietician at Northwestern University Medical Center in Chicago, IL.
Nathalie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. From 1957 on she resided in Champaign, IL, where she was active in civic and church affairs. She was a charter member and founding officer of the Carle Hospital Auxiliary in Urbana, IL. During the 1980’s she was a board member of the St. Olaf College Alumni Association and also an active member of KD Chapter of the PEO. Nathalie brought sunshine to every life she touched and was happiest sharing family stories and making others laugh.
Nathalie is survived by her husband, E. Richard Ensrud, M.D.; and her four children, Susan Denning of Madison, WI, Kristine Ensrud, M.D. (Tom Wilt, M.D.) of Minneapolis, MN, Janet (Don) Whitney of Hingham, MA, and Erik Ensrud, M.D., of Boston, MA, and Empire, MI; 8 grandchildren, Kira and Mira Denning, Greta and Ingrid Wilt, and Ben, Sarah, Grant, and Scott Whitney.
She is also survived by her siblings, Jeanne Peterson of Alborg, VT, Mark (Mary) Peterson of North Oaks, MN, and Paul (Marsha) Peterson of Blaine, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Einer Peterson, of Suttons Bay, MI.
Visitation will be at 4:00 PM on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at the Morgan Funeral Home in Champaign, IL.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Champaign, IL.
A service next summer at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay will be announced in 2013.
