Inland Seas set for boat festival

An old tradition will return to the Suttons Bay waterfront on Saturday.

The Inland Seas Education Association (ISEA) will host a Great Lakes Celebration and Classic Boat Show from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Last year, the ISEA event was held in conjunction with a Wine on the Water Festival in Suttons Bay. This year’s Wine on the Water Festival was held as a standalone event on Saturday.

ISEA’s boat show pre-dated the Wine and Water Festival by about a quarter century. The show was held annually in Suttons Bay for many years until 2004. ISEA then revived the show in 2012.

This year’s ISEA event will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the founding of the nonprofit organization, the 20th birthday of the “schoolship” Inland Seas, and the organization welcoming its 100,000th student earlier this year.

Activities on Saturday will consist of live music, a kids’ fishing pond, food, schooner tours, sailing demonstrations, a classic boat show, a nautical flea market, and more.

The event will be held at the ISEA Education Center located at 100 Dame Street and on the old coal dock at the Suttons Bay Marina.

Admission is free, although some activities will require a small fee. People of all ages are invited to the family-oriented event.

Anyone seeking more information may phone ISEA at 271-3077 or visit www.schoolship.org online.
