Domestic charges dismissed on Darga

All domestic violence charges against Elmwood Township trustee David L. Darga have been dismissed, according to his 86th District Court file.

Darga, 62, was accused of hitting his wife during an argument that occurred on July 7. According to a report from the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office, deputies contacted Darga’s wife at Munson Medical Center, where she was being treated in the emergency department for an injury to her hand. She told deputies that Darga had struck her in the head with a TV remote control.

Darga pleaded not guilty to that charge on July 18. The charge was dismissed without prejudice in District Court on Sept. 26, according to the file. Both parties are requesting additional time to continue counseling, the file says.

Leelanau County Prosecutor Joseph T. Hubbell declined to comment.

Darga has been on the Elmwood Township Board for about six years.
