A 27-year-old Petoskey woman was stopped for speeding at about 12:15 a.m. Saturday on East Traverse Highway in Solon Township. After failing field sobriety tasks the woman was arrested for drunken driving.

Since the woman has a prior conviction for drunken driving, second offense charges will be sought. She was freed after posting $100 interim bond pending a hearing in 86th District Court.

Three more citizens reported attempted phone scams on Oct. 1, and the Sheriff’s Office thinks there are likely more that have not been reported to law enforcement.

The same IRS scam has already been reported by the Sheriff’s Office earlier this summer. All three callers told dispatch that the scammers said they were from the IRS and told citizens that they would be sued if they did not pay unpaid monies that are owed. None of the citizens fell for the scam.

Each caller reported that the number shown on their caller ID came from the 202 area code, which is well known as the IRS scam area code.
