Scholarship created in memory of Glen Noonan

A scholarship fund has been established in the name of Glen Noonan, the state’s longest-serving county road commissioner. He started serving on the Leelanau County Road Commission in 1973.

Noonan, who died on Sept. 9, 2014, was named a lifetime member of the Leelanau County Prospectors Club after serving since 1964. The club is accepting donations for and will administer the Glen Noonan Memorial Scholarship Fund.

“His advice and counsel was always highly regarded by the membership,” said club treasurer David Baldwin.

In 1989, the club began awarding scholarships to county students who were planning to attend college. The Glen Noonan scholarship will supplement the club’s scholarship program.

Scholarships will be awarded in May, 2015 to selected Leelanau County graduating seniors. A committee comprised of county residents who are not club members makes the selections.

Donations may be sent to David Baldwin, Treasurer, 5600 W. MacFarlane Road, Glen Arbor 49636. The Prospectors Club is a 501-C3 organization.
