No pass needed Saturday at Lakeshore; beach cleanup set

There will be no charge to visit Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore on Saturday, which has been dubbed National Public Lands Day.

And volunteers who participate in a beach cleanup that day will receive a Sleeping Bear Dunes water bottle and a coupon for an additional free one-day pass good for public lands within the next year.

The clean-up will be held from 1-4 p.m. Participants should meet at the Visitors Center in Empire for a short introduction, and then head out to beaches with park staff. Park rangers will provide necessary tools and equipment.

Thousands of volunteers across the nation are also expected to clean at other parks.

Other park fees are not waived, including those for camping and concessions.
