Contractor given 60 days

A 53-year-old Stanton man has been ordered to serve 60 days in the Leelanau County Jail after not paying two subcontractors he hired.

Brett W. Franklin, who was sentenced in 86th District Court on Tuesday on a charge of larceny of $200 to $1,000, is also required to serve one year probation.

A builder, Franklin had also agreed earlier this month in a plea deal to pay $10,000 to the two subcontractors he had hired to work on a home on South White Hill Road in Cedar, but never paid, according to records.

Court records show Franklin was paid $35,000 to start building a home.

Franklin has also been ordered not to use or possess any illegal or non-prescribed drugs and to pay $525 in fines and costs.
