Two accidents without alcohol

Deputies were called to the scene of an accident at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday on M-22 between Crain Hill Road and Walters Drive in Elmwood Township, according to reports from the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office.

One vehicle was attempting to make a left hand turn when another vehicle passed it on the right side, sideswiping the vehicle and hitting a tree in the process, a report said.

There were no injuries.

In other news an 18-year-old Lake Leelanau woman escaped serious injury on Friday when she lost control of her vehicle and left the roadway in Bingham Township.

A deputy patrolling South Lake Leelanau Drive near Stanley Street at about 7:30 a.m. came upon the crash. The deputy and bystanders rendered aid to the 18-year-old until Suttons Bay fire and rescue personnel got to the scene.

An investigation showed that the vehicle, a 2006 Mazda, was heading south on South Lake Leelanau Drive when the driver went into a curve too fast and lost control. The vehicle left the right side of the road and struck several trees.

The driver was transported to Munson Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The vehicle sustained heavy damage.
