Take survey to improve connection

To the Editor:

My career focus was information technology. I jumped into the field in the 1970s and, while I am retired, continue to use information technology on a daily basis. Back then access to information technology was only at work and for work. Today the internet connects all of us to a vast world of games, music, video, books, and each other. A reliable, high speed connection to the internet is now a requirement for everyone. Unfortunately this does not exist for everyone in Leelanau County.

Earlier this year I learned about the Leelanau Peninsula Economic Foundation (LPEF) Technology Committee. This group of people — I am one of them — is working to find ways to provide reliable, high speed access to the internet for everyone in the County. Step one in making this happen is to better understand the lay of the land. We are doing this via a survey that we’re hoping everyone in the County will fill out.

The survey is available at (the Connect My Community website.)

From the education of our children to the success of the many farms, non-profits and businesses on the Peninsula, the internet is a vital requirement for each of us. Please help our Committee find ways to provide reliable, high speed access to the internet for everyone in the County. Your help in completing the survey is both needed and greatly appreciated.
