Concensus is building that travelers who waited until this weekend to visit the peninsula had it right.

Fall colors are peaking.

And some would say right on time. Traditionally, Leelanau dons its brilliant autumn coat somewhere around the middle of the month. Prognosticators pushed back the date because of warm, fall nights. And indeed, color may stick on hillsides for quite a few more days.

Although the Free Press this week named the “Tunnel of Trees” along M-109 the state’s top color spot, we beg to differ. Check out our evidence. If you seek a beautiful peninsula teeming with color, look around you.
