Learn how to properly test soil

A workshop on soil testing will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, at a county farm off Lakeview Hills Road.

The county MSU Extension will host a healthy soils workshop as part of the Smart Gardening Series, “Don’t Guess, Soil Test.”

Tom Smith, association director of the MSU Institute of Agricultural Technology, and a soil, turf grass and landscape expert, will lead the group in proper technique for soil sample collection, how to interpret soil test results and how to care for and feed your soil based on your specific soil and gardening needs.

The hands-on workshop, scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m., is free and open to the public. However, reservations are required. Snacks and hot beverages will be provided.

The workshop will be held outdoors and participants will get their hands in the dirt, so dress accordingly. In case of rain, the workshop will move into a pole barn on-site.

RSVP by today, Thursday, Oct. 20, by calling 256-9888 or email Michelle Ferrarese at ferrares@msu.edu.
