New art building opened in Northport

Don’t miss the grand opening of the new Village Arts Building in Northport set for 10 a.m. Saturday. The building, located on North Mill Street, that will house the Northport Arts Assocation.

The building is a gift from local residents Bill and Nina Collins. An exhibit of local artists’ work will also run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The exhibit will continue at the same times next weekend.

Program helps survive holidays

Lost a loved one recently and wonder how you’ll get through the holidays? A Surviving the Holidays program being held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday may help you get through it. The program is sponsored by Leelanau County Senior Services with bereavement counselor Sharon Neumann and will be held at the County Government Center in Suttons Bay. The program is free and includes lunch. To register call 256- 8121.

Civil rights film to show in Empire

Head to the Empire Township Hall at 7 p.m. next Thursday, Oct. 27, to watch a documentary on the life and work of Alice Tregay, a civil rights activist from Chicago who worked to bring about social change. The film, “Alice’s Ordinary People,” will be followed by a question and answer session with filmmaker Craig Dudnick. The free event is sponsored by the Glen Lake Community Library.
