KALCHIK KALCHIK A 31-year-old Suttons Bay Township man who allegedly had an ongoing ‘dating’ relationship with a 15-year-old Grand Traverse County teen has been found competent to stand trial.

David J. Kalchik, has been in the Leelanau County Jail since July 20. He was charged with two felony counts of criminal sexual conduct with a person 13 to 15 years of age.

He is being held on a $250,000 cash/ surety bond.

Kalchik’s competency hearing was held on Tuesday in 86th District Court.

Kalchik was arrested in July at his home at 9755 E. Duck Lake Road after sheriff’s deputies got a tip that he had been having a sexual relationship with the 15-year-old, according to a court report.

When deputies got to the home they found Kalchik and the teen there, the report said. The relationship had allegedly been going on for about three months, according to a court record.

Deputies had also determined that a parallel investigation involving Kalchik and the teen had recently been completed by the Michigan State Police from the Cadillac Post.

Kalchik was arrested after the Leelanau County prosecuting attorney issued a two-count felony warrant.

Kalchik’s probable cause conference has been set for Tuesday. A preliminary examination on the charges has been scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 15.
