S-B man pleads not guilty to having sex with girl, 15

A 31-year-old Suttons Bay Township man pleaded not guilty in 13th Circuit Court on Tuesday to two felony charges of criminal sexual conduct with a person 13 to 15 years of age.

The charges are related to his alleged ongoing relationship with a 15-year-old Grand Traverse County girl.

David J. Kalchik, of 9755 E. Duck Lake Road, was bound over to Circuit Court and arraigned on the charges after waiving his preliminary examination.

Kalchik has been held in the Leelanau County Jail on a $250,000 cash/surety bond since his arrest in July.

He was found competent to stand trial at a hearing held in October.

Kalchik was arrested in July at his home after sheriff’s deputies got a tip that he had been having a sexual relationship with the 15-year-old, according to a court report.

The relationship had allegedly been going on for about three months, the report said.

A parallel investigation involving Kalchik and the teen had also been done by the Michigan State Police Cadillac Post.

Kalchik’s next court date has not yet been set.
