Ask yourself: what can you do for your country

To the Editor:

On January 20, 1961 the 35th President of the United States, who was considered to be a war hero, said at his inauguration “My fellow Americans, ask not what you country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”

That was a point in time where our allegiance to our country was paramount notwithstanding our political preference. Unfortunately this mutual dedication has faded away and today we are no longer the same America.

Hopefully this 45th president will be able to make America the country it once was, while addressing the opposition by many that don’t want to return to that America where there were consequences and responsibilities and our laws were enforced to maintain an orderly society. The words of JFK on that January in 1961, were to an entire nation that voted “not for themselves” but in one way or another for their country, which may explain to some the outcome of this last election.
