Church service hosted by author, reborn soldier

Leelanau Community Church welcomes the Rev. Ingolf Schmidt as a guest speaker at its Wednesday, Nov. 30, evening service.

Schmidt is the author of “Faith Behind the Iron Curtain,” a biography that was distributed to more than 500 inmates across the United States last year alone.

Schmidt was born in Communist East Germany and grew up as an atheist. He was reborn in 1978 while a soldier in the Communist Army.

His book discusses his experiences pastoring an underground church he founded in 1985. The Living Word Church Leipzig was forbidden by the Communist government.

Schmidt has a traveling ministry that has taken him throughout Europe, Russia, Asia and the United States.

All are welcome to the event, which starts at 7 p.m. at the church. It’s located at 245 S. Lake Leelanau Drive in Lake Leelanau.
