Collins fails to appear for court date

A 42-year-old Suttons Bay woman was picked up on a bench warrant after failing to appear for arraignment on charges of felony drunken driving and driving on a suspended license.

Crystal M. Collins, of 12199 E. Norris Road, is expected to plead to the charges on Tuesday. She is currently free on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.

The charges stem from an Aug. 17 incident in which Leelanau County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance at a home on East Camp Haven Road after a caller told 9-1-1 dispatchers that his mother had come home drunk, according to a court report.

Dispatchers told the deputy that Collins’ license was also suspended.

While investigating, the deputy found Collins in the garage of the home, where she allegedly admitted to driving home from a bar in Northport, the report said.

A preliminary breath test of Collins conducted at the scene registered a .148 percent alcohol level, the report said. Tests done after her arrest showed a blood alcohol content of .11 percent, the report said.

Collins has been convicted of drunken driving in 2005 in 75th District Court in Midland, and in 2014 in 77th District Court in Big Rapids.

Third offense drunken driving is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison, or probation with up to one year in jail.
