Benefit dinners held by church raised $12,000

To the editor:

As we come to the end of the year, at the Empire United Methodist Church, we have been considering the work and blessings we have seen. During the past six months we held three benefit dinners for three different families in our community who have been in need. These dinners raised over $12,000 to help toward medical and living expenses. This support came from many of the people in our community and surrounding area who wanted to help. We thank you for your support.

We are fortunate and blessed to live in such a generous, caring, and compassionate community, and we wanted to let everyone know the good of which they have contributed and been a part. Not only have your financial gifts been helpful, but your participation and presence in the benefit dinners has been an encouragement to these families.

During this Christmas Season as we celebrate Jesus birth, we remember how simplicity can change the complexity of our world for the better. One baby born to a humble family and laid in a rustic bed of straw changed the hearts of countless many. May your daily gifts of generosity and love to all those you meet along the way have a similar effect.

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
