Celebrate winter at Solstice Dance

Don’t miss the inaugural Winter Solstice Dance from 7-10 p.m. tonight at the Village Arts Building in Northport, with local band Hoop ‘N Holler providing music. There is no charge for the dance, but donations are appreciated as the event serves as a fundraiser for the new arts building. The building, which hosts local art displays, is located at 301 Mill St. It will also be open from noon to 3 p.m. next week.

Some Christmas closing times

Schools, other local governments and businesses have scheduled time off for Christmas. Glen Lake and Leland begin winter recess Friday, Northport has a half day today, and Suttons Bay and St. Mary do not have school today. County offices will close Friday and Monday in observance of Christmas. And the Enterprise office will close at 3 p.m. Friday and reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Holidays can be tough; here’s help

Alcoholism does not take a day off over the holidays and neither do Alcoholics Anonymous meetings that take place seven days a week around the county. Meetings are for alcoholics and those who think they may have a drinking problem. Meetings are judgment-free and free of charge, and are a great place to get a hot cup of coffee. Check the calendar listings for times, dates and locations.
