Keep the barn and burn down Sugar Loaf

To the editor:

Hi, gang. We love your newspaper! We live in Suttons Bay for 5 months per year, and we spend the other 7 months in Chapel Hill, N.C., during which time we look forward only to returning to 49682. We have been doing this switcheroo since our retirements 14 years ago. We love everything about Leelanau ... almost everything. We do the Conservancy, we do the farmers’ markets, we catch, cook and serve Lake Leelanau’s Walleye, we worship at the Suttons Bay Congregational Church, we eat at Boone’s, Dick’s Pour House, Nine Bean Rows and the TC joints, etc.

But, there is one thing that continues to stick in our various parts. How can you have a front page headline article suggesting the possibility of the demise of an historic barn even as we become numb to articles over the past decade and more about the god-forsaken sugar loaf “resort.” Eric Carlson has been dutiful in his coverage of this charade. The county bureaucracy has been DOA on the matter.

Let’s keep our historic barns and burn down Sugar Loaf. Now.
