Classes offered for caregivers

A free six-session program for family caregivers of persons with dementia or memory loss is being offered in Traverse City.

Creating Confident Caregivers provides caregivers with tools and techniques to reduce their stress and improve the care they provide to their family member. The program is spponsored by the Area Agency on Aging Northwest Michigan (AAANM).

The first workshop in April will be held Sunday, April 9, from 2-4 p.m. There will be no class on Easter Sunday, April 16. However, the class will reconvene April 23 and will meet for five consecutive Sundays, concluding May 21.

The other workshop will begin Monday, April 17, and will be held for six consecutive Mondays, concluding May 22.

Both sessions will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Classes will be held at the AAANM, located at 1609 Park Drive in Traverse City.

In addition to the two scheduled classes, AAANM is planning to offer the same classes in June, August and October, if there is sufficient interest.

Further information about the caregiver education program is available by calling 1-800-442-1713 or register online at www.aaam.org/workshop-registration.
