T-C man’s past may play into latest driving charges

GROENEVELD GROENEVELD A 32-year-old Traverse City man was video arraigned Tuesday in 86th District Court on a felony charge of drunken driving.

Gordon A. Groeneveld, of 5105 Rosewood Dr., was arrested March 16 in Suttons Bay Village after being pulled over by a sheriff’s deputy.

His preliminary breath tests registered .24 percent and .25 percent, according to a court report.

He is currently being held in the Leelanau County Jail on a $75,000 cash/ surety bond.

If convicted, Groeneveld will also be sentenced as a three-time habitual offender.

Groeneveld was convicted of negligent homicide in 2006 in 57th Circuit Court in Petoskey, and of unlawful use of a motor vehicle in 2003, also in Petoskey.

Leelanau County Prosecutor Joseph T. Hubbell said he does not yet know the details of the negligent homicide case, but said that information will be important in the resolution of the case — especially if the conviction was due to drunken driving.

Groeneveld’s probable cause conference has been set for April 4 and his preliminary examination for April 11.
