HOW GREEN, CLEAN AND SAFE?

LEELANAU COUNTY:

We’re unveiling the second set of stories in our four-part series discussing environmental factors affecting Leelanau County. This week staff writer Eric Carlson looks at solid waste produced in the county. Last week we covered drinking water in the county.

Still to come are stories about the disposal of human waste, both through private septic systems and municipal sewer systems. Amy Hubbell and Alan Campbell will provide that coverage.

The overriding message from solid waste coverage is the success of the county’s recycling program, which has led to a decrease in material deposited at Glen’s Landfill in Kasson Township.
