Name: Debbie Wawrzyniak

Town or township of residence: Suttons Bay Village

Resident of county since: Full time for about five years. I’ve been visiting Glen Lake since I was 10.

Age and birthplace: I’m 74. I was born in Hinsdale, Ill.

Occupation: I’m a volunteer with the Suttons Bay-Bingham District Library and a Friend of the Library. I’m also a retired insurance underwriter and Realtor.

Marital status: I’ve been married to Len Wawrzyniak for 30 years. I also have two daughters, one grandson and one great-grandson.

You live in Leelanau County because: I wanted to live here full time for a long time. As soon as we retired we came up here. It’s beautiful, clean and there’s a lot going on up here, lots of other retired people so that makes it easy to make friends.

Last good movie you saw: “Spotlight”

Last good book you read: “Isador’s Secret,” by local author Mardi Link.

If you could trade places with one person for a day, who would that be: Michelle Obama, so I could get to know Obama better.

Things important to you that you have accomplished so far: Raising my children, and getting over shyness. I used to be really shy and quiet. I also ran a deli that my husband bought when he was unemployed. He got a job so I ran it. I really felt like if I could do that I could do anything.

What you hope to be doing in 10 years: More of the same, but with more energy.

Things you lose sleep over: They seem to be smaller things, as opposed to the world, trivial things.

If you could change one thing in Leelanau County, it would be: More housing for the middle class, for working people.

Favorite dessert: Lemon meringue pie.

Are you a coffee drinker: No, I drink mostly tea, black.

Favorite place in Leelanau County: Home.

If you had more time you would: Do more walking, more hiking and reading.

The words that best describe you are: Light-hearted on the outside, but serious on the inside.
