Roseville woman, caregiver sentenced

SHERRILL SHERRILL A 62-year-old Roseville woman was sentenced in 86th District Court on Tuesday to 120 days in jail and two years probation for embezzling money from a Leelanau Township man under her care.

Kathryn M. Sherrill, formerly of Leelanau County, pleaded guilty last month to embezzlement by an agent of between $200 and $1,000. In return, a charge of embezzlement of between $1,000 and $20,000 was dismissed, according to court reports.

The charge stemmed from a case in which Sherrill was an appointed conservator for the man, but used funds entrusted to her for her own personal expenses, reports said.

The money was taken between December 2012 and July, the report said.

Sherrill had pleaded guilty in December to a charge of failure to appear for arraignment when she didn’t show up for court. A bench warrant had been issued, but was recalled when she made a court appearance.

Sherrill will pay $1,075 in fines and costs, plus restitution, although that amount has not yet been determined.
