Future park rangers gather near Glen Haven

Grab the kids and head to the D.H. Day Cabin in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore for Junior Ranger Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Kids will learn about lighthouses, animals and more while mastering the basics of being a Junior Ranger and earning an official Junior Ranger badge. Parents should park at Glen Haven and take Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail to the log cabin.

Classic movie, worthy cause

See a classic silent movie, “Safety Last” at 7 p.m. Saturday at Suttons Bay Congregational Church. The movie will be accompanied by pianist Lynne Long, who will play 62 songs as a continuous soundtrack. Cost is a freewill donation that will benefit the nonprofit Remain in Touch program that records incarcerated parents reading books to their children as a way to remain connected.

Elephant sale, and in Omena!

Pick up some more stuff you really need — and maybe you don’t? — to support a good cause at the Omena Club 21 White Elephant Auction set for 7 p.m. next Wednesday, May 3, at the Omena Fire Hall. Money raised will go toward much-needed upgrades at the hall, including a new bathroom and updated plumbing, more storage and a wider entrance to accommodate wheelchairs.
