Man who hit father gets 84 days in jail


SOUTHBIRD SOUTHBIRD A 23-year-old Northport man was sentenced in 13th Circuit Court on Tuesday to 84 days in jail with credit for 84 days served for attempted domestic violence, third offense.

Julio A. Southbird, of 10635 N. Foxview Dr., has been in jail since Valentine’s Day, when he assaulted his father.

Southbird was also sentenced to four years probation and $548 in fines and costs.

The charges stemmed from an incident in which Leelanau County Sheriff’s deputies and Tribal Police were called to Southbird’s Leelanau Township home after receiving a report of a fight.

They found Southbird’s 61-year-old father with injuries to his face. The father told police that Southbird had been fighting with his 22-year-old brother. When the father tried to break it up, Southbird hit him in the face, according to a court report.
